Perhaps they were too new to each other; perhaps too unaccustomed to the wholly collaborative creative process they demanded of themselves; perhaps too prepared. After several years, two successful album and limitless amounts of love and respect earned and shared between one another, Circa Survive has become one of the most impactful, ethereal bands on the planet. I was lost in the moment. I think that the record as a whole flows a lot better because of its differences. Convention will tell you you have to follow trends but, when it comes down to it, following natural intuition is always going to win out.
The stuff that matters is our connection. The thing that sums that up is love. This is a real band record for us and the songs have something in them that makes me feel like a better person. So if anybody could take something from this record, I hope it helps them realize that they can do anything. Now Circa Survive has emerged from the studio anew, stronger and more focused on continuing to further their artistic evolution together.

Death is tied to birth, unrest is tied to revolution, emotional pain is tied to personal growth, and the only way to reach catharsis is to first lean into the storm. The Amulet is meant to be a tangible manifestation of that catharsis, the kind of relief that comes from accepting the pain of loss—personal, socio-political, and cosmic—and moving forward.
These themes even apply to the band itself with Green saying, "the way the band was when it started is dead and this record feels like a bit of a rebirth in a lot of ways. Time has just weathered us, we got through the hard times and came out the other end, and I feel like this is the pinnacle of the band personally and creatively. In a musical landscape that seems predisposed towards instant gratification, Circa Survive may appear to be made from a mold that no longer exists, but fitting with modern bands or icons of the past has never been their goal.
